Town Government

Although Fishers is a large and rapidly growing place, it remains a town. Because of the "town" status, Fishers does not have a mayor. The government in Fishers is led by a seven-member town council and one clerk-treasurer.

The town council has legislative and executive powers while the clerk-treasurer handles all financial matters. All members are elected at-large for four-year terms. The council also elects a council president and vice president each year. The council appoints and also oversees the town manager who is responsible for the daily operations of the town government.

It is important to also note that in 1998, the voters in Fishers rejected a referendum to become a city.
